Lufthansa cabin upgrade guidance

Compare an upgrade with a new fare before you decide how to improve your journey.

Not Lufthansa customer service. Agency fees may apply; request a quote before approving work.

Quick answer

Upgrade options depend on your ticket and available inventory. Check the offer for the specific flight, passenger, and cabin. Read which benefits and conditions change, rather than assuming an upgrade replaces all of the original fare rules.

Be clear about the experience you want

Explain whether your priority is more space, rest on an overnight flight, lounge access, or a different cabin service. Sometimes a seat option and a cabin upgrade solve different problems. Compare the specific product on the aircraft shown for your itinerary.

On connecting trips, confirm which segments are included. An upgrade on one flight does not mean that every flight on the ticket moves to the same cabin.

Read the offer before accepting

Check the price, currency, passenger names, flights, and confirmation conditions. If the offer is a bid or request, distinguish it from an immediately confirmed purchase. Ask when and how you will be notified of the outcome.

Verify baggage, seating, lounge access, and any other benefit you intend to use against that offer. Keep a copy of the terms presented when you accept.

Think about later changes

Ask what happens if you change or cancel the itinerary after upgrading. Lufthansa’s upgrade guidance describes important limitations, including cases that cannot be rebooked through its website. The original ticket and upgrade can require separate consideration.

If the airline changes the journey, save both the original ticket and upgrade confirmation when seeking assistance.

Avoid paying twice for the same goal

Before replacing a paid seat with an upgrade, ask how the earlier seat payment will be handled. Review the total already spent and the new amount requested. The independent adviser should explain any separate service fee before you authorize it.

We cannot guarantee upgrade inventory or the acceptance of a bid.
